"Ultimate Heating System for Ultimate Soccer Facility"
The new Ultimate Soccer Arenas facility in Pontiac, MI is the largest and most modern indoor arena of its kind in North America. There is nothing else like it. Everything is state-of-the-art, including their energy efficient, direct gas-fired Cambridge heating system. This 267,000 square foot metal building was designed to provide the ultimate indoor soccer experience for teams, coaches, players and their families. In addition to first-rate fields, the stadium has over 2000 permanent seats for spectators. Over a million people will visit the facility each year.
George Derderian, one of the owners and mastermind behind this amazing 6-acre indoor sports complex says, "We wanted the best heating system possible to provide clean, energy efficient heat with very even temperatures throughout the building." At first they considered conventional, indirect gas-fired air rotation heating equipment. However, this approach required a complicated and expensive system of large heaters installed inside the building taking up valuable floor space. Energy efficiency, stratification and noise from their large blowers were also major concerns with using air rotation type equipment.
Systemp Corporation, a local mechanical contractor, recommended state-of-the-art Cambridge Blow-Thru® Space Heaters. Only a few small units were needed to heat all three buildings. Initially, George Derderian was a little concerned. "When I first saw the Cambridge heaters, I thought some parts were missing because they were so small. I didn't think there was any way they could heat our entire facility."
George has since become a big fan of energy efficient Cambridge heaters. Despite a very cold first winter, the Blow-Thru® type heaters did a great job heating the facility, circulating the air and providing very even temperatures without stratification despite a 72' high roof peak. Best of all, natural gas usage was even lower than expected.
This can be attributed to the high performance Blow-Thru® technology, a patented Cambridge burner with 100% combustion efficiency (Ec) and the highest BTU/CFM ratio for this type of heating equipment.
Another big benefit of a Cambridge heating system is improved indoor air quality. Many indoor sports facilities have an odor associated with activities in the building or the heating system itself because there is too much recirculation of indoor air or not enough ventilation and air movement.
