"Genuine Green Cambridge Heaters"

Save Energy, Improve IAQ, Reduce Air Pollution, Increase Profits

Heating large commercial and industrial buildings is now a bigger challenge than ever before. This is due to rising energy costs, concerns about indoor air quality (IAQ) and the need to reduce a building's carbon emissions footprint. Cambridge can help. Table 1 summarizes the green benefits of 50% energy savings with Cambridge Blow-Thru® Space Heaters in terms of both dollar savings (increased profits) and the impact on our environment.

High performance Cambridge heaters with our patented burners and Blow-Thru technology have been used to heat over a billion square feet in recent years. Typical applications include warehouses, manufacturing plants, boat storage facilities, car dealership service bay areas, indoor sports facilities, parking garages, energy retrofit projects and LEED green buildings.

Energy efficient and environmentally friendly Blow-Thru space heaters are a proven, cost effective way to go green. Consider the following four green benefits of using Genuine Cambridge® heaters.

1. SAVE ENERGY
Only Cambridge heaters with Blow-Thru technology offer the combination of 100% combustion efficiency (Ec), the industry's highest certified dual temperature rise/outlet temperature rating (160ºF) and the best BTU/CFM ratio. This means properly applied Blow-Thru space heaters can achieve 40% to 70% energy savings versus all other types of commercial and industrial heating systems as shown in Table 2. This has been documented in hundreds of building studies throughout the U.S. and Canada.

2. IMPROVE INDOOR AIR QUALITY
Lack of adequate ventilation can cause indoor air quality (IAQ) problems by not purging fumes, odors and stale air from the building. Infrared (radiant) systems, unit heaters and air turnover equipment used in conjunction with just exhaust fans can create negative air pressure problems. The ventilation system becomes ineffective when the building is closed up tight, flue gas can back draft into the building or a constant path of incoming cold air is created when doors are opened. These negative air pressure problems impact IAQ, increase operating costs and must be eliminated for green buildings.
All non-recirculating, direct gas-fired heaters, certified to ANSI Standard Z83.4/CSA3.7, will address these problems. However, only Cambridge heaters with Blow-Thru® technology and the best BTU/CFM ratio have the ability to heat the minimum amount of fresh outside air required to handle the building's combined air infiltration, make-up air and space heating needs.

3. REDUCE COSTS & INCREASE PROFITS
The total cost of any heating/ventilating system includes equipment cost, installation, start-up, operating cost and value of the facility benefits it provides. Competitively priced Cambridge Blow-Thru Space heaters are amazingly small for the amount of heat they put out. Cambridge heaters are less expensive to install and start-up because they can be mounted just about anywhere. Since no ductwork is required, they also provide instant heat during winter construction projects. Building owners and tenants value the lower utility bills, reliability and virtually maintenance-free design. This all translates into lower operating costs for Cambridge heaters that can last for over 20 years in most applications.

Cambridge space heaters provide additional value to the owner and tenant when facility benefits are considered. This category includes such things as value of the additional usable floor and vertical racking space you get with these small heaters. Most important of all, the benefit of better indoor air quality, more even temperatures and a warm building on even the coldest days means more employee comfort, better productivity and increased profits.

4. REDUCE AIR POLLUTION & CARBON FOOTPRINT
Saving energy also means a corresponding reduction in CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) and other greenhouse gases that cause global warming. Burning 100 cubic feet of natural gas (1 therm of energy) creates 12 pounds of CO2. To put this in perspective, a well insulated 50,000 sq. ft. metal storage building with a 37 ft. high ceiling in Chicago using indirect gas-fired unit heaters will burn 1.5 million cubic feet of natural gas per year (15,000 therms) and put 88 tons of CO2 in the atmosphere. Cambridge Blow-Thru type space heaters used to heat/ventilate the same building can both improve indoor air quality and reduce energy usage by 50%. This will eliminate 44 tons of CO2 emissions and significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the building. That has the same impact on our environment as planting 132 new trees each year or taking 8 cars off the road.

Cambridge, the USGBC and LEED
You cannot specify or buy any type of heating equipment that is certified as being "green." The USGBC (U.S Green Building Council) and their point based LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building certification program does not permit product certification for HVAC equipment. That includes Cambridge heaters, even though our company is an active member of the USGBC. However, specifying Genuine Cambridge® Heaters, and using our industrial heating/ventilating expertise, can help earn LEED points in the two important categories of Energy Efficiency (EA) and Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ).

Ashrae 90.1Energy efficient Cambridge direct gas-fired heating equipment can also comply
with the requirements of ASHRAE Standard 90.1.
